How harmful are the products your cleaning company or in-house team are using?

In a recent study from of 6,000 people by a team at Norway’s University of Bergen found that lung function has declined more over the years for people who cleaned.  The study confirmed that air pollution can come from a range of sources, including paints, adhesives and cleaning products that are used indoors.

UK experts explained that people need to keep their homes well ventilated and use liquid cleaners rather than spray cleaning solutions. The Bergen team feared that such chemicals in cleaning products could steadily cause little damage to the airways day after day, year after year, leading to a decline in lung function that occurs with age. Oistein Svanes, who worked on the Norway study, expresses that the message from the research is that “long run cleaning chemicals very likely cause rather substantial damage to your lungs”.

“These chemicals are usually unnecessary; microfiber cloths and water are more than enough for most purposes”. In December OfficeCare had 20,000 microfiber cloths delivered to work alongside their Bio Technology Cleaning products. These products are organic, plant based, 99.9% biodegradable within 28 days and give superior performance against traditional cleaning agents.
